Chemistry for mineral recovery

Sodium Metabisulphite (SMBS)

SMBS is a sulphur-based process chemical used to control oxidation-reduction conditions and suppress or manage selected minerals in flotation and hydrometallurgical circuits. It is also used in certain water-treatment and detoxification applications.

KBMC’s Phase 1 is designed to establish regional SMBS manufacturing, customer qualification and a reliable dispatch platform before the wider integrated build-out.

Sodium Xanthates — SIBX, SEX and SIPX

Sodium xanthates are flotation collectors. In simple terms, they help selected sulphide minerals attach to air bubbles so valuable minerals can be separated from waste rock.

  • SIBX — sodium isobutyl xanthate
  • SEX — sodium ethyl xanthate
  • SIPX — sodium isopropyl xanthate

The product mix and capacity will be aligned with customer qualification, operating requirements and demand as the KBMC manufacturing platform develops.

Sodium Hydrosulphide (NaHS)

NaHS is a sulphidising and surface-modifying reagent used in selected flotation and hydrometallurgical circuits. It can support mineral-surface preparation for recovery and the management of certain dissolved metals, depending on the process flowsheet.

KBMC plans to integrate NaHS production with CS₂ and xanthate manufacture as part of the Phase 2 platform.
